The following recordings are the oldest vintage recordings that I have on which I have played. These are definitely not for the faint of ear.

The first four tracks are songs that few people, if anyone other than myself, have ever heard. These are my first multitrack recordings, and they hold a special place for me.

After that..., more swamp water filled with really old things on which I've played.

Bahama Mama (1988) - by Kelly J. Seager | 3.9mb - 2:26

Music and Instrumentation by Kelly J. Seager

This song was my first completed solo composition and mulitrack recording. The featured instrument is a small 10" steel drum that was given to me as a gift from a friend who acquired it during her trip to the Bahamas, hence the title. This song always makes me smile!
play
Long, Cool Breeze (1992) - by Kelly J. Seager | 7.05mb - 4:24

Music and Instrumentation by Kelly J. Seager

The next 3x songs were all recorded in the same fashion as Bahama Mama.

I went through a strong period of musical fertility around this time, likely due to my work at Brandeis University studying composition.

This one was the first to be recorded in the basement of the 35 Waban Street manor. If you've been there, you know the deal! They were recorded on my Tascam Portaone 4-track cassette recorder and bounced by means of a HiFi VHS videocassette recorder.
play
Way Down Low (1992) - by Kelly J. Seager | 8.98mb - 5:36

Music and Instrumentation by Kelly J. Seager

Going for the heavy sound here. Perhaps, my favorite guitar solo I've ever done. It's very simple, but very haunting. Think Paul Kossoff.
play
Lonely Old Road (1992) - by Kelly J. Seager | 7.12mb - 4:26

Music and Instrumentation by Kelly J. Seager

This one just missed the mark for me. I've never really felt that the parts of the song flowed well together. There are moments that I just love, but my inexperience putting a song together was too evident for me. This shows my guitar playing really just starting to take shape.
play
Rhythmatic (1989) - by Kelly J. Seager | ??mb - ???

Performed by Kelly J. Seager

coming soon... Sorry... can't yet find the recording!

I have to smile out of the side of my mouth when I think of this recording. It earned me a chance to play at the semi-finals of the "Boston's Best Drummer Competition" at Bunratty's in Allston in 1989.
play
Open Door (1985) - by The Magnetics | 4.31mb - 4:10

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith

These songs were my first glimpse of a really creative production process, done by Larry Franceski and Jim Russell-Smith. They were done brilliantly on a Tascam Portaone cassette recorder.
play
Saturday (1985) - by The Magnetics | 4.02mb - 3:46

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith

This was our attempt at a jazz feel.
play
Mind Over Matter (1986) - by The Magnetics | 5.34mb - 4:54

Words and Music by Larry Franceski

Larry's prophetic look at the future... LOVE the chord progression in the bridge. Stunning.
play
Christmas Time (1986) - by The Magnetics | 4.37mb - 3:45

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith & Larry Franceski

I've always loved this song. Never loved the drum part... :(
play
Cruel (1986) - by The Magnetics | 4.97mb - 4:33

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith

A one-take live version - Only version that exists.
play
Caffeine (1984) - by The Magnetics | 994kb - :52

Words and Music by Larry Franceski

One minute of a major-league coffee blitz. Truly, a Larry work of art.
play
Dirty (Little So and So) (1983) - by The Magnetics | 5.79mb - 5:44

Words and Music by Larry Franceski

This anthem was the beginning of a long musical friendship for Larry, Jim and me. We thought we were the bees knees of progressive rock back then!
play
Model Man (1983) - by The Magnetics | 5.79mb - 5:20

Words and Music by Larry Franceski

I could always picture a fellow with airplane glue while listening to this song!
play
No Way Out (1983) - by The Magnetics | 6.67mb - 6:15

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith
play
Decades Daze (1982) - by Snack World | 3.84mb - 3:40

Words and Music by Craig Comeau

Snack World was the first truly "original" group I was in. At the time, I thought we were just plain out there. I couldn't hold on to it. Wish I had, at least for a bit longer.

These four songs were recorded at a show at club called Jasper's in Somerville with a single mic and my Tascam A-650 stereo cassette recorder.
play
Martin (1982) - by Snack World | 3.34mb - 3:09

Words and Music by Craig Comeau
play
Dead End (1982) - by Snack World | 3.83mb - 3:39

Words and Music by Craig Comeau

Song about a couple of motivated kids and a dream - that turns deadly.
play
Cakewalk (1982) - by Snack World | 5.31mb - 4:59

Words and Music by Craig Comeau

Instrumental buzz.
play
Incomplete (1982) - by Snack World | 2.64mb - 2:31

Words and Music by Craig Comeau
play
Bastille Day (1980) - by Vigyl | 4.72mb - 4:29

Words and Music by Neil Peart

This was the first "live" recording of me playing drums with a group. It was recorded at the Concord Scout House, in Concord, MA in December of 1980.
