Bonus Samples Page!!
Whirling Dervish Productions

Welcome to my hidden "bonus" samples page!

If you have found this page, I thank you for digging this deeply.

On this page, you'll find a hodge-podge of things that I've contributed to, mostly by playing drums in the featured band.

play
Attitude (2002) - by Jim, Larry & Kelly | 3.85mb - 3:25

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith

Opening track of a collection from the boys. Larry and Jim produced these tracks, with Larry engineering and mixing. I played drums on these, and then threw them all together for a master.
play
Everything I Need (2002) - by Jim, Larry & Kelly | 6.01mb - 5:16

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith

Headbanger Larry!
play
Collage (2002) - by Jim, Larry & Kelly | 667kb - :35

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith & Larry Franceski | 4.41mb - 4:08

Jim and Larry wanted me to try my hand at creating a "collage" of the different songs in this collection. This is the underachieving result.
play
Fear (2002) - by Jim, Larry & Kelly | 5.65mb - 5:04

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith
play
Medicine Woman (2002) - by Jim, Larry & Kelly | 5.66mb - 4:49

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith
play
Fear of Intimacy (2002) - by Jim, Larry & Kelly | 2.15mb - 1:53

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith

I recorded the drums for this one and mixed them into the rest of the tracks. It was an early Protools effort.
play
Promises (2000) - by Jim, Larry & Kelly | 13.2mb - 11:05

Words and Music by Jim Russell-Smith

This song was recorded a few years earlier than the others, but was included in the collection as somewhat of a "bonus" track. Jim and Larry produced this one to the max. I had a lot of fun playing drums on this. Don't remember for sure, but I may have recorded the drums in the basement at 35 Waban Street.
play
Cocaine (1998) - by Arielle Silver & The Honey Chile Band | 4.72mb - 4:21

Words and Music by Arielle Silver

This collection of songs was perfomed live on "The Joint", a radio show on WBRS. We had only been together for a short while, so we were not well rehearsed, and Arielle was suffering from a nasty cold this night. Nevertheless, this recording holds an important place in my musical history. I believe I played my most authentic drumming of any musical setting I've been in, although it may not be hugely evident here.
play
Blue Room (1998) - by Arielle Silver & The Honey Chile Band | 6.42mb - 5:58

Words and Music by Arielle Silver

Subtle but driving drum rhythm. I just love it. Play it loud!
play
Slipping (1998) - by Arielle Silver & The Honey Chile Band | 4.68mb - 4:13

Words and Music by Arielle Silver

Another crazy drum song. Don't know where the ideas for this one came from. We only played it a few times prior to this recording.
play
Under a Bright Light (1998) - by Arielle Silver & The Honey Chile Band | 6.64mb - 6:12

Words and Music by Arielle Silver

Loved the drum idea, but not well developed at the time.
play
In My Bed (1998) - by Arielle Silver & The Honey Chile Band | 6.21mb - 5:42

Words and Music by Arielle Silver

This was my favorite of the set to play live. Simply crunching.
play
Sunday (1998) - by Arielle Silver & The Honey Chile Band | 3.23mb - 2:59

Words and Music by Arielle Silver

Such a sentimental song
play
Beautiful Woman (1998) - by Arielle Silver & The Honey Chile Band | 4.09mb - 3:52

Words and Music by Arielle Silver

Love the drive of the drum part on this one. Crazy energy.
play
Without Me (1997) - by Primrose Path | 3.95mb - 3:44

Words and Music by Chris Inglesi and Douglas Alex Ross, Jr.

Live recording: The Middle East Cafe - Cambridge, MA

I have really enjoyed this recording for a long time. Full of raw energy.
play
Monteverdi (1997) - by Primrose Path | 5.00mb - 4:42

Words and Music by Chris Inglesi

Always had a hard time liking this drum arrangement, but it has grown on me as time has put its cobwebs on it.
play
Eddy (1997) - by Primrose Path | 7.31mb - 6:54

Words and Music by Douglas Alex Ross, Jr.

This song was my favorite of this era. It's not for everybody, but musically speaking, it's way beyond the others. Boat loads of edge.
play
Incognito (1992) - by Eliot Freelove & The Lost Magi | 6.51mb - 5:53

Words and Music by Geoffrey Rohrbach

This was my first and only original jazz group. It turned my head around, in terms of jazz. I became a true fan after this gig.

This was recorded live on "The Joint", WBRS radio. Similar to the Arielle Silver gig, we had only been together for a couple of weeks, and had rehearsed these songs only a couple of times each. That's jazz for ya.

By the way, the title reflects the fact that I have no idea what the name of this song was!
play
Incognito #2 (1992) - by Eliot Freelove & The Lost Magi | 3.44mb - 3:03

Words and Music by Geoffrey Rohrbach
play
Hey Little Sister (1992) - by Eliot Freelove & The Lost Magi | 9.36mb - 9:03

Words and Music by Geoffrey Rohrbach

I never gave this song much thought when we recorded it. Only upon hearing it repeatedly over time did I come to find the rare beauty and poignancy of its meaning. Such a talented songwriter.
